Margaret Thiele

Music Education

 

DMA, Music Education, Boston University; MA, Piano Pedagogy, and Music Theory & Literature, Eastern Michigan University; BME, The Ohio State University.

Dr. Thiele joined the EMU faculty in 2001 and has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Courses she has taught include: Music for Elementary Education majors (undergraduate); and Psychology of Music, Curriculum & Assessment, History & Philosophy of Music Education, and Seminar in Music Education (graduate level). She was nominated for Outstanding Lecturer of the Year in 2003.

In addition to teaching at EMU, Dr. Thiele is a General and Choral music teacher in the Dexter Community Schools, Dexter, MI, teaching Kindergarten through 6th grade. She has also served on the Piano Faculty at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, MI.

Professional affiliations include the American Orff-Schulwerk Association, ACDA, NMTA, and NAfME. She has been a presenter in Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Michigan, and has contributed to the Music Education Policy Project at Boston University. Her research interests include music development and cognition, and the impact of public policy on music education.
