Miller Asbill is a candidate for the AMusD in Wind Conducting at the University of Michigan, where he is under the mentorship of Professor Michael Haithcock.
Mr. Asbill holds a Master of Music degree in conducting from the University of Michigan, where he received a fellowship to study with H. Robert Reynolds. Before returning for the doctorate degree he was the Associate Director of Bands at the University of New Mexico where he conducted the Symphonic Band, Spirit Marching Band, Soundpack basketball band and the New Mexico Youth Symphonic Band.
He received his B.M.E. from Arizona State University. Before returning to graduate school, Mr. Asbill taught public school in Charleston,_South Carolina, where his ensembles received invitations to perform at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago, the South Carolina State Music Educator Conference and the Bands of America National Conference Band Festival.
Mr. Asbill is an accomplished euphoniumist, having won the TUBA International Euphonium Solo Competition in 1986. His Tuba-Euphonium Quartet was the only American college representative to Sapporo, Japan for the 1990 TUBA Convention. He was principal euphonium of the ASU Symphonic Band for five years, and has been featured soloist with the Albuquerque Community Band, the Charleston Community Band, the University of Michigan Symphonic Band and other college concert bands.
Mr. Asbill is a member of the College Band Directors National Association, the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, the National Bandmasters Association, The Conductor's Guild, and the Tubist Universal Brotherhood Association. His wife Debbie is the Director of Marketing and Communications for Music for All (formerly Bands of America), the nation's leading presenter of educational events for high school bands and orchestras. Their son Kai is twenty months old.
