Graduate Performance Competition

Download Application (MS Word) >

Graduate Studies and Research and the Department of Music and Dance at Eastern Michigan University will annually present two awards of approximately $1000 each to outstanding graduate students in Music Performance. The Department of Music and Dance Elections and Awards Committee will select the recipients through a competition to be held in the winter semester. Applicants must be degree admitted to a Master of Arts program in the Department of Music and Dance and must be enrolled during the term of the competition, as well as the term immediately prior to the competition. Applicants must be enrolled in applied lessons on their auditioning instrument/voice during the semester or the semester immediately prior to the competition. Students on Conditional Admission, including those taking required ESL courses, or Non-Degree status (Teacher Certification, Teaching Endorsement, Self Improvement, and Guest) are ineligible.

Each event is limited to a maximum of two performers (with continuo, keyboard plus melody bass, considered as one entity). Note only one performer shall be considered as the entrant and clearly designated as such on the application (i.e. entrant may be the "accompanist"). Previous winners may enter again only if performing on a different instrument.

All entries will be judged by a four person panel consisting of one representative from each performance area: winds/percussion, keyboard, strings, voice, whose recommendations will be forwarded to the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research for final approval.
