Dear dedicated supporters:

Eastern Michigan University’s Department of Music and Dance is proud to be a part of the annual EMU Jazz Dinner Dance for the Al Townsend Scholarship on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. in the EMU Convocation Center Atrium. We invite you to take part in this annual event with music provided by Al Townsend’s The Couriers and the EMU Jazz Ensemble. This year’s event will have a “luau” theme.

The proceeds from the Jazz Benefit are divided between the development account of EMU’s Jazz Program and the Al Townsend Scholarship Fund. Last year’s proceeds enabled Director, Don Babcock to take the ensemble to the Elmhurst College Jazz Festival where the top jazz ensemble and combo performed. The students also had an opportunity to hear concerts by many other groups from schools around the country and by the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra.

The Al Townsend Endowed Scholarship in Jazz Studies remains fully funded. However, we now need to raise funds for the growing Jazz Studies Program. Your donation will allow us to bring clinicians and guest artists to campus, help support off-campus concerts and provide new music for the students.

With the anticipated generosity from this year’s sponsors and guests, the Jazz Ensemble hopes to purchase some new music and attend the University of Michigan Jazz Festival.  Some of the money will also go towards recording and sound balancing their annual concerts.

We need your financial support and your attendance at this most important event. Please consider attending and being a sponsor of the 2008 EMU Jazz Dinner Dance. Our students deserve a rich educational experience!
