As one who conducts, teaches, and serves music and music education at all levels Kevin Miller is one of the most versatile conductors and clinicians in the field today. At Eastern Michigan University he conducts the Symphony Orchestra, teaches instrumental music methods and conducting, and supervises student teachers. He is also the music director of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony, and he directs the Chancel Choir at the First United Methodist Church in Ypsilanti.
Professor Miller has conducted orchestras at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic (Chicago), the Michigan Music Education In-service Conference, and has presented clinics there and at the Illinois Music Education Association state convention. He has served as president of the Michigan chapter of the American String Teachers Association with National School Orchestra Association (ASTA with NSOA), as secretary on the board of directors for the Michigan Music Conference, is a founding member and secretary of the College Orchestra Directors Association (CODA), and he advises the EMU student chapter of ASTA with NSOA—winner the first national Student Chapter-of-the-Year Award.
Miller has been music director of the Lake St. Clair Symphony Orchestra in St. Clair Shores, Mich., assistant conductor of the Elgin (Ill.) Symphony Orchestra, music director of the Elgin Area Youth Orchestra, music director of the Youth Symphony Orchestra at the Ann Arbor School for the Performing Arts, and is a frequent guest conductor of professional and community orchestras. He holds degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and the University of Michigan.
