Opportunities for Students Not Majoring in Music
Ensembles
Participation in university ensembles is open to all EMU students by departmental permission, which, in most cases, may be obtained after contacting the particular ensemble director and performing an audition.
Applied Study
Private lessons are available on all the traditional orchestral instruments, voice, guitar, piano and organ. Non-majors receive one 30-minute lesson per week. Registration is subject to available studio space.
Chamber Music
Students participate in small ensembles by arrangement with an applied teacher.
Music Classes
Other opportunities for music study are available to the non-music major such as classes in music theory, music history, music appreciation, and more.
Scholarships
In addition to university scholarships, non-music majors may qualify for such department scholarships as service awards, Marching Band stipends, and some endowed scholarships. Visit Scholarships in Music to learn more.
