David M. Pierce is Professor of Music teaching Bassoon and Music History at Eastern Michigan University

He earned Bachelor of Music (Honors), Master of Music, and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in bassoon performance from the University of Illinois. His principal bassoon teachers were Sanford Berry and Wilbur Simpson.

An active professional bassoonist, while on the faculty at EMU Dr. Pierce has appeared with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Windsor (Ontario) Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Chamber Winds, New Sousa Band, Plymouth Symphony, Dearborn Symphony, Livonia Symphony, Marquette (MI) Symphony, and Ann Arbor Symphony. He regularly performs with the Eastern Winds (EMU faculty wind quintet) and has appeared as soloist with the EMU Wind Ensemble and EMU Orchestra both on campus and on tour throughout Michigan. Dr. Pierce has been a featured performer in EMU Music Now Fest concerts and at International Double Reed Society conferences.

As EMU Coordinator of Music Advising, Dr. Pierce has received the Dean's Recognition of Excellence award for outstanding achievement in academic advising.
