Dr. Whitney Prince is Professor of Music at Eastern Michigan University where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in music theory and aural skills. He holds Bachelors and Master degrees from the University of Michigan in music education and percussion, respectively, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting from the University of Colorado. He is an active member of the Society of Music Theorists and MACRO (Macro Analysis Creative Research Organization) for whom he has made two presentations at national conferences. His article "Macro Analysis and the I-V-I Tonal Axis" was recently published in Musical Insights, the MACRO journal.
Prior to teaching music theory, Dr. Prince served as Associate Director of Bands and Professor of Percussion at Eastern Michigan. In that capacity, Dr. Prince was active as a performer, adjudicator, and clinician, and served as President of the Michigan Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society. He has lead on-campus performances of the EMU Percussion Ensemble with jazz greats Louis Bellson and Dave Mancini; his percussion students hold positions in the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and the United States Naval Academy Band.
More recently, Dr. Prince has composed several works which have been performed both locally and nationally. In addition, his arrangement for percussion keyboard of Debussy's "Danse" has been performed by leading university percussion ensembles throughout the country.
