Welcome to Dr. Alex Graham,
Jazz Artist in Residence, Winter 2010

Alto saxophonist Alex Graham has performed with a wide variety of artists including Diane Schuur, The Four Tops, Nnenna Freelon, Michael Weiss, Sheila Jordan, The Temptations, Aaron Goldberg, Mark Levine, Wessell Anderson, Jim Rotundi, Rodney Whitaker, Peter Bernstein, Steve Davis, Joe Magnarelli, Sam Yahel, Louis Smith and Dena Derose. GrahamHis groups have performed at festivals and clubs all over the United States and have opened concerts for Dave Brubeck, The Count Basie Orchestra and John Pizzarelli to name a few. Graham holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. He has taught a “Jazz Performance Workshop” course at the Eastman School of Music, and is currently the Director of Jazz Studies at the Bay View Festival in Petoskey, MI.

EMU Jazz Ensemble

The Jazz Ensemble is comprised of approximately 20 members. Jazz Ensemble is open to all EMU students by audition the first week of classes.

Rehearsals: Tues., Thurs. 4:15-5:45 p.m.

EMU Jazz Combos

Jazz Combos are smaller ensembles comprised of 3-6 members, based on instrumentation and skill level. Jazz Combos are open to all EMU students by audition the first week of classes. Gigs are performed both on-campus and off-campus venues, including the Tower Inn Restaurant in Ypsilanti every Thursday evening from 8-10 p.m.
