PERCUSSION at EMU

Clinic Day/EMU High School Honors Band

This year's Eastern Michigan University High School Wind and Percussion Clinic Day will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2007. It is an enjoyable (and inexpensive) way to dramatically improve a student's knowledge of percussion and the quality of his/her playing.

Professor Dorsey will be presenting informative clinics that day which will focus on developing the skills - both musical and technical - which lead to percussion excellence. Students will learn more about playing snare drum, mallet keyboards, timpani and percussion accessories. In addition, there will also be demonstrations and performances by EMU percussion students, the EMU Percussion Ensemble and the EMU Marching Band Drumline. It is a fast paced, stimulating, and informative day.

While attending Clinic Day, 10th, 11th and 12th grade students may audition for the High School Honors Band which occurs January 11 - 13, 2008. The EMU Honors Band is a wonderful musical and social experience - the best of its kind in the state! Auditions are held that morning (11/17), immediately preceding the afternoon clinics. For their audition, students should be prepared to play a short solo of their choice on snare drum, a mallet instrument (marimba, xylophone, etc.), and, if possible, timpani. Sightreading and timpani tuning will also be asked during this seven to ten minute audition.

Participation in Clinic Day also includes a faculty recital, dinner and admission to the evening Bandorama concert (7:00pm) presented by the EMU Bands. This is a terrific concert featuring the Marching Band, Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band.

Please call or e-mail for an application or for more information about the day's activities.
