Facilities

All percussion practice rooms and most percussion instruments are housed in the Alexander Music Building. In addition to classrooms, teaching studios and all other accomodations, Alexander has two instrumental rehearsal rooms, a choral room, organ studio and a small recital hall (150 seats). Large Ensembles (and Percussion Ensemble) perform in the 1500-seat Pease Auditorium.

There are eight locked practice rooms designated for percussion practice, specifically: three rooms for mallet instruments, one for timpani, one for drum set and three rooms that may be used for any purpose, including multiple percussion set-ups.

The inventory of percussion instruments includes:

  • Marimbas - Marimba One 5-octave (2), Musser 4 1/3 octave, Yamaha 4 1/2 octave, Yamaha 4 1/3 octave, Musser 4-octave (2)
  • Xylophones - Malletech 4-octave, Yamaha, Deagan, Musser (2)
  • Vibes – Yamaha, Musser, Deagan
  • Bells - Deagan (4), Deagan Parsifal
  • Chimes - Musser (2)
  • Timpani - Ludwig Ringer, Yamaha 6100 series, Ludwig Professional Symphonic, Ludwig Standard Symphonic (2 sets)
  • Concert Bass Drums - Ludwig (40”, 36”, 36”), Leedy (28”)
  • Snare/ Field Drums - Black Swamp 6 1/2"x14", 12"x15", Pearl Philharmonic 6 1/2"x14", Ludwig 5"x14" (2), Hinger 5"x14", Yamaha piccolo
  • Cymbals - Zildjian Orchestral (18", 20”), Sabian HH 16", 17", 18”, 20" + a large selection of suspended cymbals, splash & Chinese cymbals.
  • Drum Sets - Yamaha (2), with complete sets of Zildjian cymbals
  • Latin/Afro Cuban Percussion - Conga drums (4), Bongos (2 ), Timbales (2)

EMU also owns two octaves of crotales, three tam tams, Chinese opera gongs, log drums, 12 graduated tom toms, and 7 roto-toms, in addition to all the standard small hand percussion instruments, sound effects and ethnic instruments.
