Opportunities for all EMU Students

Learning Beyond the Classroom (LBC) - you can earn General Education LBC Cultural and Academic Activities and Events credit for attendance at EMU Music and Dance sponsored events. Be sure to complete an attendance card and give it to an usher at the conclusion of the performance to receive credit.

 

Major Ensemble Participation

If you’re interested in making music, we have a place for you! Music and Dance offers a variety of vocal and instrumental ensembles that are open to all University students, regardless of your major. Students enrolled in these ensembles receive one credit.

Bands

Marching Band

The EMU Marching Band is comprised of 200 students, representing nearly every major on campus. The band has a rich 115-year history of serving EMU at athletic functions, parades, and events.
Rehearsals: Mon., Wed., Fri. 4-6 p.m.

Concert Band

The Concert Band is open to all students in the University who can play a wind or percussion instrument. No audition is required. Rehearsals: Mon. 7-9 p.m.


Symphonic Band

A concert band of 80 instrumentalists that performs the best of traditional and contemporary band repertoire.
Rehearsals: Tues., Thurs. 1– 3 p.m.

 

Choirs

University Choir

A mixed ensemble of 75–80 singers that performs a diverse repertoire of choral music.
Rehearsals: Mon. – Thurs. 3 – 4 p.m.


Chamber Choir

A select ensemble of 28–30 singers that performs major works with orchestra and more challenging choral repertoire.
Rehearsals: Mon., Wed., Fri. 1 – 3 p.m.

 

Symphony Orchestra

An organization of approximately 70+ string, woodwind, brass, and percussion players that performs a wide variety of orchestral literature. High school string players are encouraged to audition. Performances include the popular Halloween concert and December ballet production.
Rehearsals: Tues., Wed., Thurs. 1–3 p.m.
