Lynn LaRue Chenoweth, BMT 1993, has announced that the Aphasia Community Friendship Center, of which she is founder and creator, is officially recognized as a Michigan nonprofit, public charity organization (501(c)(3). The center will provide a variety of services for people with aphasia, focusing on social interaction and intellectual stimulation. The nonprofit, public charity status will allow the center to receive grants and tax deductible donations. It has been a dream of Lynn's to create the center for a number of years, and her dream is coming closer to realization.
Yuji Igari, completed the music therapy program at Eastern Michigan University in 1998. After going back to Japan, he started his own private practice in Sendai, Japan, and has actively practiced music therapy with children and adults who have autism, Down Syndrome and other developmental disabilities. He also works for the elderly people with dementia as a part-time music therapist. Igari has been actively involved with the Japanese Music Therapy Association as one of the council members as well as local music therapy association such as the Miyagi Music Therapy Study Group. He also teaches an Introduction to Music Therapy course at Shokei Women's College in Sendai. Igari has been a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) for five years, and also has been a certified music therapist in Japan.
