Greetings from the EMU Wind & Percussion Faculty!
Each new school year brings with it a set of new challenges, most likely in the form of the students we are privileged to teach. Much of the time, I find that I learn much from my students -- probably more than they learn in my classes! One of the great things about teaching music is that we can renew ourselves each day through our experience with this most profound art. Part of this renewal process involves our contacts with students and colleagues.
Your colleagues at Eastern Michigan are vitally enmeshed in the art and the teaching of music. Part of our responsibility is to serve our art and to serve the people of Michigan and the Midwest. We do that by performing, conducting, teaching, traveling, research, and by making what we have learned available to the widest possible audience.
Our Lesson Letters, published since 1988, are an example of this process. By offering them on the World Wide Web, we hope that you and your students will be able to take better advantage of the information in these letters, and that you will respond via e-mail or in other ways to let us know how we're doing.
Best wishes for continued success!
