Biography

Dr. Phillip Bloomer is instructor of Euphonium and Tuba at Eastern Michigan University. Additionally, Dr. Bloomer maintains an active performing schedule as the Tubist of the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet, the Principal Tubist of the Adrian Symphony Orchestra, and BBb Bass with the Five Lakes Silver Band. He has also performed as a substitute or additional tubist with the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, Michigan Philharmonic, Oakland Symphony, Saginaw Bay Choral Society, and Toledo Symphony Brass Quintet.

Dr. Bloomer has performed internationally at music festivals in Bornem, Belgium and Burgos, Spain. He performed in a month long tour of China as a member of the University of Michigan Symphony Band. Dr. Bloomer is prizewinner of the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Festival, and of many competitions at International Tuba Euphonium Conferences, including the first prize in the Arnold Jacobs Orchestral Tuba Competition in 2014.

Dr. Bloomer's principal teachers include Fritz Kaenzig, David Zerkel, and Mark Moore. Dr. Bloomer received his Doctor of Musical Arts in Tuba Performance from the University of Michigan, and holds a Master of Music from the University of Georgia and Bachelor of Music from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
