Meeting #3 Minutes – March 14, 2002, 3:30-5:00 p.m.

PRESENT: Whitney Harris, Mary Jo Desprez, Eric Seidelman, Kay Woodiel, Lee Reed, Lisa D’Amelio, Carole Huston

ABSENT: Greg Peoples

Whitney informed the committee of the two potential dates for our Peer Review Team visits: Week of May 12, 2003 and week of June 9, 2003

Committee agreed to cancel the March 27, 02 Open Forum and reschedule at the next subcmte meeting.

Next subcmte meeting is March 28, 2002 at 3:00 pm. Agenda items will include the following:

§ Arrange/schedule half-day work sessions

§ Schedule additional meetings time

§ Assess assigned areas of work and bring data requests to meeting

Subcmte divided work load and assigned areas of work as follows:

§ Carole Huston to handle items 1-4 from the previous self study report

§ OP 4.1 Gender Issues – Kay Woodiel with support from Carole

§ OP 4.2 Minority Issues – Greg Peoples with support from Lee and Whitney

§ OP 4.3 Student-Athlete Welfare – Mary Jo Desprez with support from Kay, Eric and Greg

§ OP 4.4 Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct – Whitney Harris with support from Eric and Lisa

Subcmte reviewed each OP and several highlights are noted below:

Whitney reminded the committee about the term “provide evidence,” and what that means.
Subcmte agreed to forward suggestions for new policies to intercollegiate athletics for review and followup.
Subcmte will invite Dave Diles to a meeting in the future to discuss the five year plan for equity and minority issues
Subcmte decided on using 1999-00, 2000-01 & 2001-02 as the three year period for review of all data
Eric Seidelman suggested that a University Sportsmanship Award be developed and implemented in the near future

Next Meeting: March 28, 2002, 4:00 p.m.
