Committee Reports
- Academic Integrity: In John
Dugger’s absence, Jim Vick reported that an electronic version of the corrected report
will be sent to the Steering Committee early next week for review at the
September 5 meeting.
- Equity,
Welfare & Sportsmanship:
Whitney Harris reported that the final draft of the committee’s
report will be completed shortly.
It was recommended that he add a compliance comparison with other
MAC schools. Dave Diles indicated that, upon completion of the Equity,
Welfare and Sportsmanship report, the Athletics Department will prepare
the Gender Equity Plan and the Minority Equity Plan.
- Fiscal
Integrity: Sandra Williams
distributed a draft report but noted that there is still information
missing. Steering Committee members should review the report and provide
Sandra with any feedback on either content or format by August 21. A revised report will be sent
electronically to Steering Committee members by September 3 for discussion
at the September 5 meeting. The
Fiscal Integrity Subcommittee is hosting its second public forum on August
21, 2002; 1:30 p.m. in McKenny Union.
- Governance
& Commitment to Rules Compliance:
The Steering Committee reviewed the Governance & Commitment to
Rules Compliance draft report and recommended several changes. Karen Simpkins
will work with Dave Diles, Jeff Armstrong and Kathy Tinney to implement
the Steering Committee’s suggestions/corrections.
General Decisions Concerning Committee
Reports
- Recommendations
implemented prior to the March 31, 2003 Self-Study Report due date should
be included in the body of the subcommittees’ reports; others will be
included in the subcommittees’ plans for improvement.
- Student
comments/quotes will be added to each subcommittee report as appropriate.
- Be sure
to include Draft # and date on each subcommittee report.
Issues/Problems
- Subcommittee
members: Whitney Harris reported
that the Equity, Welfare and Sportsmanship committee lost two members –
Lee Reed and Eric Seidelman. Jim
Vick has submitted Matt Lucas’s name to the President to replace Lee and
is awaiting word on his appointment.
The Steering Committee did not think it was necessary to replace
Mr. Seidelman at this juncture.
Sandra Williams reported that Robert Brackenbury and Kainoa Akina
have left the University and have been replaced on the Fiscal Integrity
Committee by Steve Holda and Matt Kudo respectively.
- Jim Vick
will send Steering Committee members a list of team kick-off meetings;
volunteers are needed to speak briefly to student-athletes about the NCAA
certification process.
