July 1, 2002

Simpkins, Kathy Tinney, Jim Vick, Sandra Williams
Committee Reports
- Academic
Integrity: John Dugger distributed Draft II of the Academic Integrity Self
Study Report. There are a couple of sections to be completed. Jim Vick
will follow up with President Kirkpatrick and Courtney McAnuff concerning
the specific goals that need to be set for graduation of students
generally. The subcommittee’s
recommendation to appoint an Academic Affairs representative to the
Athletic Admissions Committee will be included in the Plan for
Improvement. Steering Committee members were asked to carefully review the
report and provide John with comments prior to the July 24 Steering
Committee meeting.
- Equity,
Welfare & Sportsmanship:
Whitney Harris distributed a draft Equity, Welfare and
Sportsmanship Self Study Report. Self-Study Items # 2 and #6 are being
completed. Whitney reported that Eric Seidelman, student-athlete alumni
representative, has resigned from the committee due to a change in
employment. Jim will follow-up with President Kirkpatrick regarding Eric’s
replacement. Kathy Tinny
distributed Draft II of the Equity Plan.
The Minority Plan is being completed.
- Fiscal
Integrity: Sandra Williams
reported that a preliminary draft should be completed by mid July.
- Governance
& Commitment to Rules Compliance:
Karen Simpkins reported that the work of her committee is
progressing well and a draft report should be ready by July 24.
Issues/Problems
Assignments
- Each
subcommittee should review its Self Study Plan and compile a list of items
to be included in the Plan for Improvement.
- Steering
Committee members should review each of the Self Study Plans, provide
comments/recommendations and any suggested plans for improvement to the
respective committee chairs.
- Items for
the Plan for Improvement generated from the Academic Integrity Self Study
Plan will be discussed at the July 24 Steering Committee meeting.
