NCAA Steering Committee Minutes

October 30, 2002

3:00 p.m. –111 Welch

Members present: Jeff Armstrong, Dave Diles, John Dugger, Whitney Harris, Bob Okopny, Melody Reifel, Karen Simpkins, Jim Vick, Sandra Williams

Report Review:

• Academic Integrity: John Dugger reported that the Academic Integrity subcommittee report requires minimal editing but all concerns have been met. The final copy will be sent to Steering Committee members electronically; any additional feedback should be sent directly to John Dugger.
• Governance and Commitment to Rules Compliance: Karen Simpkins indicated that her committee’s report still needs some appendices and organizational charts but the main body of the report has been submitted to Kathy Tinney for editing.
• Fiscal Integrity: The Steering Committee completed its review of the Fiscal Integrity report and made several suggestions for improvement. The next draft will be sent to Kathy Tinney for her review.
• Equity, Welfare and Sportsmanship: The Steering Committee completed its review of the subcommittee’s report and made several suggestions for improvement. The revised draft will be sent to Kathy Tinney for her review. It was agreed that both the Equity Subcommittee of the Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Committee (IAAC) and the Equity, Welfare and Sportsmanship Committee would review the Gender Equity Plan and issue a statement of endorsement.

Next Meeting:

Since the work of the subcommittees is finished for now, another meeting of the Steering Committee was not scheduled for the time being. The Steering Committee chair will call the committee together as the need arises and will arrange a meeting with the subcommittee chairs and Kathy Tinney in the near future.
