Assistant Professor, Educational Leadership
Eastern Michigan University is one of the largest producers of educators in the United States. We are located in Ypsilanti, adjacent to Ann Arbor and 45 minutes from downtown Detroit. The Educational Leadership Program within the Department of Leadership and Counseling offers a master’s, specialist and doctoral degree (Ed.D.) in educational leadership. These programs are primarily designed to prepare practitioners for beginning and advanced leadership roles in P-12 and higher education. The EDLD faculty has a long tradition of excellence and innovation. We are currently engaged in urban initiatives and school improvement efforts in P-12 education as well as the development of dynamic and innovative leaders for institutions of higher education.
Responsibilities
Tenure track faculty appointee will teach graduate-level classes for P-12 practitioners; advise students; and chair and serve on doctoral dissertation committees. Involvement in research and writing is required; therefore, time will be available for these and other scholarly pursuits. The candidates must have previous leadership/administrative experience in P-12 central office to be effective, be able to articulate a research agenda and demonstrate significant contributions in the field of educational leadership.
Qualifications
An earned doctorate in educational leadership/administration or a closely related field from an accredited institution and prior experience in P-12 central office administration are desired. Preference will be given to individuals who have interest in designing and teaching online courses using pedagogy that leverages technology to enhance student reflection and construction of knowledge. In addition, we are looking for individuals who have made significant contributions in the field of educational leadership (i.e. conference presentations, professional association activity), graduate-level teaching experience, and an interest and/or experience in working with doctoral students. The candidate will be expected to work with students on and off campus, face-to-face and in on-line environments, contributing to the success of strong standards-driven master’s, specialist, and doctoral programs. A competitive salary will be based on qualifications and prior experiences with a tenure-track appointment at the assistant professor rank. Starting date should be no later than August 27, 2012.
