Instructional Level: Graduate

Position Characteristics: The successful candidate's professional focus will be on leadership at the elementary and/or secondary school levels. Courses taught will be at the graduate and doctoral level. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in one or more of the following areas: educational leadership, educational administration, instructional leadership, supervision, educational reform and site-based leadership. Courses taught will include equity and multicultural aspects, particularly skills in leading programs for English learners. The successful candidate is expected to engage in scholarly activities, specifically in regard to research in the field of education administration as well as strategies to diminish the achievement gap in public schools.

The successful candidate may be called upon to teach in a distance education mode and will be encouraged to develop web-enhanced and/or web-based instruction and will be expected to work well within an engaged department and school. There are many opportunities for the successful candidate to be fully engaged with the PreK-12 educational communities through the Central Valley Educational Leadership Institute (CVELI) that is affiliated with the department. Many initiatives are currently underway, and there are exciting possibilities for expanding collaborative work through CVELI. The department faculty has developed outstanding relationships with the local school districts, and additional consultation contracts for working with these constituencies is possible.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to further his/her scholarly practice through the Center for Research, Evaluation, Assessment and Dissemination (CREAD), where faculty perform collaborative research for publication and dissemination. The successful candidate will have opportunities for collaboration around practice and research through both CVELI and CREAD. Fresno State is a Hispanic Serving Institution and the doctoral program in Educational Leadership is part of the prestigious Carnegie Project on the Education Doctorate. Specific assignments will depend on departmental needs. Other duties will include, but are not limited to, advising students, participating in program development, actively engaging in research and problem solving activities, and committee service at all levels of university governance.

The successful candidate may be called upon to teach in a distance education mode and will be encouraged to develop web-enhanced and/or web-based instruction. Outcomes assessment and service learning are important components of the university curriculum.

Academic Preparation: An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in educational administration or leadership at the Pre-K-12 level or related area is required. Appropriate course work to teach educational leadership and administration at the Pre-K-12 curriculum, assessment, or other related area is required for appointment to the tenure track position. Secondary areas of expertise might include curriculum, program evaluation, or technology.

Teaching Or Other Experience: The successful candidate must have an excellent record or potential for establishing an excellent record in university level instruction. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching, research, and scholarly activities, including successful grantsmanship and research publications. Our preferred candidate would have the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds.
