The Dean is the chief administrative officer and academic leader of the College of Education and reports directly to the Provost.  The College consists of three departments: Educational Leadership and Counseling; Elementary, Early and Special Education; and Middle and Secondary Education.  The 44 full-time faculty members in the college teach and supervise approximately 1800 undergraduate majors and approximately 400 graduate students. Graduate programs include 6 Master’s degrees, 3 Specialist’s degrees, and a collaborative doctoral degree with the University of Missouri-Columbia. The College offers programs which integrate classroom study and field experience.  Accreditations are held with NCATE and CACREP. Southeast is the nation’s only two-time winner of the Christa McAuliffe Showcase for Excellence Award presented by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU).

Southeast Missouri State University is a comprehensive regional state University, consisting of ten colleges and schools:  Health and Human Services, Business, Education, Graduate Studies, Extended Learning, Liberal Arts, Science and Mathematics, University Studies, Polytechnic Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts. In addition to the campuses in Cape Girardeau there are three regional campuses and 2 Higher Education Centers. The University currently enrolls approximately 11,500 students and is the only four-year and Master’s granting institution located in the 25 counties of southeast Missouri.  Admissions are moderately selective.  Southeast competes on the NCAA Division I level as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference in athletics.

Southeast Missouri State University is interested in recruiting academic leaders who take an entrepreneurial approach to the development of new academic programs and initiatives.  Ideal candidates will be able to document the development and maintenance of academic quality verified by measured student learning.  Preference is given to candidates able to demonstrate the ability to champion online program development, course redesign, and other progressive methods of developing and transmitting knowledge digitally.

Cape Girardeau, located on the Mississippi River less than two hours south of St. Louis and three hours north of Memphis, serves as the major cultural, medical, retail, wholesale, financial, transportation, and education center for southeast Missouri and southern Illinois.  The Cape Girardeau metropolitan area has a population of approximately 71,000.
