Susan Badger Booth
NLA Campus Co-Director

Professor Susan Badger Booth became the Campus Executive Susan Badger BoothDirector of the Eastern Michigan University Nonprofit Leadership Alliance in the Summer of 2015. She is also an EMU professor, the director of the Arts Management/Arts Administration program, and the faculty advisor to EMU’s arts-based student organization: AMP! Amplifying the Arts.

In her current role as NLA Campus Executive Director, Professor Booth works with undergraduate and graduate students as well as nonprofit professionals to advise them on opportunities in the nonprofit field and how to receive the Certified Nonprofit Professional credential. She also teaches related nonprofit and arts-based courses and conducts research on cultural organizations.

Before she joined Eastern Michigan University in 2006, Professor Booth taught for nine years at Bowling Green State University, in Ohio. She also has more than a decade of experience working in and managing arts-based nonprofits across the country.


Dr. Tucker C. Staley, Ph.D.
NLA Campus Co-Director

Dr. Tucker Staley joined the EMU Political Science Department and became the Co-director of the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance at EMU in the fall of 2017. Before joining the faculty at EMU, he taught at the University of Central Arkansas and University of Minnesota-Duluth. He received his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Missouri (2012) and his B.S. in political science from the University of Oregon (2005) with a minor in business administration. He specializes in public and non-profit administration and enjoys working with community organizations and local governments. In the classroom, Dr. Staley encourages his students to be active in the broader community and often incorporates service-learning components in his courses. He manages the nonprofit administration and management courses for the undergraduate Public and Nonprofit Administration major and Nonprofit Administration minor in addition the the graduate Nonprofit Management MPA concentration and Nonprofit Management graduate certificate.  

Lisa Gavan

Lisa Gavan joined the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance in September 2017 as a Graduate Assistant, pursuing her Master of Arts Administration degree.  Before coming to Eastern Michigan University, Lisa worked as a professional photographer, administrative assistant and community theater volunteer.

Lisa has spent the last 5 years volunteering with Ann Arbor Civic Theater, UMGASS and PTD Productions as an actor, stage manager, props master, assistant director and photographer.  She is also currently secretary of executive board for U of M’s Gilbert and Sullivan Society.  

Lisa also volunteers her time photographing theater productions for Skyline High School.

Lisa received her Bachelor of Arts in Biomedical and Fine Art Photography from College for Creative Studies in 2004.
