OIS Seminars & Activities

In addition to Orientation and Initial Visits we have planned other informative seminars and activities for you as you begin your studies at EMU. There is no charge for these seminars or activities; just come and join the fun! See the OIS Event Calendar for upcoming dates & times

On Campus Employment Seminar - one of the first questions new students ask is "Can we Get a Job?" On campus work performed for EMU is usually acceptable, whether it's in the library, computer lab, dining services or parking department. As an F1 or J1 student, you may apply for permission to work on campus provided you have completed your initial visit and are registered full-time for classes at EMU. See Employment Information for more details.

Banking 101 Seminar - Banking in the USA can often be confusing for our new international students. Come and meet a representative from TCF Bank to learn more. You are under no obligation to open an account, just come along and learn the easiest ways to manage your finances while here in the USA

Campus Tours - daily, Monday - Friday; depart from the EMU Student Center Welcome Center at 10 & 2 Saturday, depart from the EMU Student Center Welcome Center at 10 am

Local Shopping Trips - most new international students don't own a car, making it difficult to run out and purchase necessities you couldn't bring with you on the airplane. Some of our EMU students have volunteered their time to assist with this. Please send Sue an email (ssohn2@emich.edu) if you would like to participate in one of these shopping trips as space is limited. If need warrants, we may be able to add additional shopping trips, if our volunteers are willing!
