What is a group leader?

A group leader is assigned to a group of about 6 to 8 new international students.  This person is required to participate with their group during activities and orientation sessions.  The objective of the group leader is to be a resource to new students both during and after orientation by answering their questions and concerns about life at EMU and in the United States.
Group leader expectations:

  1. Attend the mandatory training session
  2. Attend orientation starting at 7:30 a.m. until orientation is over
  3. Participate with group during orientation events
  4. Contact new student group members several times during the semester

If you can't be a group leader, you can volunteer and assist the new international students in other ways including:

  • Giving campus tours
  • Assisting the new students with shopping and airport pick-up
  • Making signs
  • Stuffing orientation packets and bags
  • Taking pictures at orientation
