Congratulations on your admission to Eastern Michigan University! The Office of International Students (OIS) is proud to host more than 1000 foreign born students, from over 90 countries, who have chosen EMU as their "home away from home." Your presence is welcomed and will enrich our campus in countless ways. The staff of the OIS is experienced with the special issues you will face living in a new country, and look forward to working with you upon your arrival at EMU.

Experience and research indicate that a strong orientation program is important for a positive start as students begin their studies at a major university. To ensure that your experience at EMU is successful, we require your attendance at our International Student Orientation. This is a dynamic program focusing on valuable tools you will need for success here at EMU. The orientation program will acquaint you with University programs and services, and help you adjust to life in Michigan. You will learn about student life from current students, attend sessions that help you become familiar with campus policies and activities, and best of all - meet other international students!

Entering students tell us that Orientation was fun, helpful and informative. Here are a few comments from students regarding orientation:

All international Students, whether new or transferring to EMU, are required to attend the International Student Orientation if you are an F or J visa holder. Other visa holders and family members are also welcome to attend all orientation events.

As attendance at orientation is mandatory, ALL new F & J visa holders will automatically be charged for orientation. If you are unable to attend for any reason, you will still be charged, but can attend the next available orientation without being billed an additional fee.

Registration for orientation is required; please register for orientation using our on-line registration form.
