The Social Security Administration and Secretary of State will be at the Student Center to facilitate Social Security Numbers, letters of ineligibility for Social Security Numbers, and driver's license tests.

Morning — 9 to 11:30 a.m. (no driver exams given after 11 a.m.)
Afternoon—1:15 to 3:45 p.m. (no driver exams given after 3:15 p.m.)
No registration required. Must arrive before 11 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. to take driver's license test.

Location: Room 310 Student Center (Driver's License testing), Room 320 Student Center (Social Security Numbers and letters)

What to Bring to Apply for a SSN?

For details on how to apply and what to bring, see Applying for a Social Security Number. The requirements to apply for an SSN are the same during Social Security and Driver's License Day as if you were to apply for an SSN at the Social Security Administration Office.

What to Bring to the On-Campus Michigan Driver's License Written Test?

1. Your Social Security card OR a "letter of ineligibility" from a Social Security Administration Office (see below for details). Letters more than 30 days old will not be accepted.
2. Your original I-20 or DS-2019 (plus a copy)
3. Your original passport (plus a copy)
4. Your original visa (exception given to F-1 Canadian students) (plus a copy)
5. Your original I-94 card (plus a copy) / I-94 receipt available on this link
6. Proof of your Michigan address (see below)
7. If you have a license from your home country, bring your original license plus a translation to English (see Translation Guide)
8. A pencil AND a black pen
9. Complete and print the 2-page Driver License and ID Card Application online form before you come in to take the test. Be sure to know your height in feet and inches, your weight in pounds, and the color of your eyes. Use a conversion calculator such as www.worldwidemetric.com/metcal.htm for assistance, if needed.

Letter of Ineligibility

Requesting a "letter of ineligibility" on campus during EMU Social Security and Driver's License Day:
Social Security Office representatives will be on campus to help international students and scholars apply for "letters of ineligibility."
Location: Room 320, Student Center
Time: 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:15 to 3:45 p.m.
What to Bring: original I-20 or DS-2019, passport, visa, and I-94 card
You will receive your letter of ineligibility immediately.

Requesting a "letter of ineligibility" at the Social Security Office:
You can also request your "letter of ineligibility" at a Social Security Administration (nearest one from EMU campus is located at 3971 Research Park Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48108; AATA bus route #6 towards Ann Arbor).

Proof of Michigan Address

The following documents can be used to confirm your Michigan address. It is possible to present two documents from the same category. For example, you may present two Chase bank statements from different months as long as they are issued within the last 90 days. All documents provided MUST have the applicant's name and complete address.

1. A utility bill or a credit card report issued within the last 90 days. Electronic copies are acceptable.
2. A land-line phone bill.
3. Your residence hall or apartment lease that has your name, room or apartment number, and the housing or landlord's office phone number.
4. Your bank account statement issued within the last 90 days. Electronic copies are acceptable.
5. Most recent pay stub or earnings statement issued with the name and address of the employer.
