How to Transfer from a US College Or University?

• Be fully admitted to EMU (contact International Admissions for assistance)
• Contact your current international student advisor to request them to transfer your SEVIS record to EMU. You must officially transfer to EMU no later than 60 days after the end of your current program.
• You must visit EMU's Office of International Students within 15 days of classes starting. You will receive a transfer I-20. This new I-20 is required to maintain legal status.
• Keep ALL your previous I-20s. You must have records proving you maintained student status continually while in the United States.
• You must attend EMU's mandatory International Student Orientation & check-in. Contact the Office of International Admissions about the application requirements for the program you want to attend.

F-1 Students are not permitted to remain in the United States when transferring between schools or programs unless the student will begin classes at the transfer school or program within 5 months of transferring out of the current school or within 5 months of the program completion date on the student's current 1-20, whichever is earlier.
