The Global Ambassador program at EMU is designed to help you in your transition to life at EMU. You will be assigned a Global Ambassador, either an American student or another international student who has studied at EMU for at least one semester. The Global Ambassador will be in contact with you via e-mail before you arrive to EMU with the goal of making you feel welcome to our campus and answering questions about life at EMU and in Michigan. You may ask your ambassador any questions that will help your transition to EMU be more smooth and comfortable. Examples might be (but are certainly NOT limited to):
Naga Sandhya Guntaka
I am Naga Sandhya Guntaka, graduate student in Chemistry. Apart from enjoying my job as a full time Graduate Assistant at the chemistry department, I spend my weekends watching movies and hanging out with friends. I also love gardening, cooking and to interact with people from different cultures and countries.
I am a master's candidate in the TESOL program (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at EMU and I am really enjoying being a part of this university! My interests include traveling, doing yoga, IndyCar racing, watching the TV show 'The Office', and trying new things. I love helping people and just enjoying life.
I like sports, motorcycles, cats, movies-especially French and British gangster ones, music, books, travel to foreign countries, working at EMU and being in grad school!
Lucy M. Njiru
I am a graduate student in Community Counseling program. I love my program; I love my professors; and I love Eastern Michigan University Halle library where I spend most of the time in my stay in United States. I am fascinated by meeting people and making friends from diverse cultures. I enjoy traveling and site seeing - I have travelled widely in places like East Asia, Europe, and Africa; and now I take every opportunity that comes my way to tour places in North America and the Caribbean. Also, I have interests in music and dance, shopping, museums, beaches and going to church. I am passionate about philanthropic work and that is one of the reasons I am here as a Global Ambassador.
My name is Thomas Coates, I'm an international student from Australia studying at Eastern Michigan University. I moved to this college three semesters ago, in order to begin my tertiary education in Biology and Chemistry majors, and continue my training as a swimmer, with the EMU swim team. In my time here I have come to appreciate and enjoy not only the people of EMU but the culture and environment that the school fosters. Aside from swimming and studying I enjoy skiing when I get the opportunity, travelling when I have the money and relaxing when I have the time.
My name is Carrie Grignano. I am a Vocal Music major and TESOL minor at EMU. I studied abroad in South Korea last Fall where I met some amazing people. I plan to teach English in South Korea after I graduate. I love meeting new people and learning about other cultures. I love to just hang out with friends watching movies, playing games, and going to karaoke!
My name is Shao Yang. I was born in China. I've been in the United State for 12 years now. I am an accounting major. My hobbies are photography, fashion and traveling. I also love sports such as tennis and badminton.
I am currently an undergrad student and working part time here at Eastern. I enjoy hanging out with friends and family, reading, biking and trying out new cuisines. Traveling to see the world also fascinates me a lot, as well as learning different kinds of culture and being around a diverse community.
Zi Wei Ting
Hi everyone, my name is Zi Wei Ting or you can call me Tina. I am from Malaysia. It is my pleasure to help people and I enjoy doing that. I am currently majoring in dietetic-intent and am a sophomore student. I have been living here for one year. I love shopping, eating, cooking and watching movies. My name is Tyrie and I am a full time undergraduate student working part time at EMU. I study International Business and I plan to double major in Japanese language and culture. When I am not studying or working I like to watch movies, listen to music, play the piano, explore the city, try new restaurants, play video games, and meet new people. My name is Jesse Stanghini. I am originally from Ontario, Canada, but moved to Michigan in 2007. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Communication & Psychology in 2011 and my Master of Art's in Educational Leadership, with a focus on Higher Education and Student Affairs in 2013. Over the last 6 years, I have met numerous phenomenal people at EMU, and hope to introduce you to many of them. My goal with being a Global Ambassador is to help international students, like myself, become acclimated to the campus, climate, and culture.
