To ensure a successful transition to your new campus and home, please carefully read the following two sides of information.

After you are admitted to EMU

Visit the Study in the States website

The Study in the States website has great information about visas, traveling, forms and your arrival: https://studyinthestates.dhs.gov/students

Review your I-20 or DS-2019

Make sure the following items are correct: your name, date of birth, country of birth, country of citizenship, major, degree level, English language proficiency (on the I-20 only) and finances.

Pay SEVIS I-901 fee

Pay your SEVIS I-901 fee at www.fmjfee.com/i901fee. Make sure you you’re your receipt! You will need the receipt each time you travel into the United States..

Make your visa appointment

Contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulate near you to learn how to make an appointment and the required documents needed.www.usembassy.gov.

 

 

 

Before traveling to EMU

Activate your my.emich account

Your Net ID allows you to check your my.emich account and your EMU email. See www.emich.edu/oiss/studentaccounts.html for more information. If you have questions, please contact the I.T. Helpdesk: www.emich.edu/it/help/help_desk.

Check your email for updates!

Check your EMU email regularly for information from the Office for International Students & Scholars (OISS) and other departments on the EMU campus.

Sign up for UNITED International Student Orientation

www.emich.edu/oiss/orientation.html During UNITED orientation, you will learn about immigration rules, learn about EMU and meet other new students. Attendance is mandatory. Attendance is mandatory.

Sign up for Immigration Check-in

www.emich.edu/oiss/checkin.html This will allow OISS to register your arrival to EMU. Attendance is mandatory.If do not attend an Immigration Check-in session, your I-20 or DS-2019 will be terminated and you must leave the U.S. immediately.

Register for Classes

Classes fill up quickly! For information about classes and who to contact to register, visit www.emich.edu/oiss/classes.html.  Make sure you communicate with an academic advisor before arriving to EMU.

Health insurance and vaccines

You will automatically receive EMU health insurance when you register for classes. Information about health insurance and recommended vaccines can be found at www.emich.edu/oiss/insurance.html If you have questions, please contact the Snow Health Center at health_service@emich.edu.

Pay tuition fees

You will get your first eBill after you register for classes. More information can be found at www.emich.edu/oiss/financial.html.

Have the proper immigration

documents with you

EMU I-20 or DS-2019, passport, visa, I-901 SEVIS receipt, admission letter. More information is available at www.emich.edu/oiss/flightarrangements.

Transportation from the airport to campus

Have the name and address of the place you will be staying. More information about taxis can be found at www.emich.edu/oiss/flightarrangements.html.

EMU student I.D. card

Get your photo taken for your I.D. at the EagleOne office in 201 Pierce Hall; www.emich.edu/sbs/eagleone/index.php. Make sure you put your local address in my.emich.edu before going to EagleOne office!

Attend UNITED International

Registration is at www.emich.edu/oiss/checkin. Bring your documents and complete the New Student Information Sheet online. This will allow OISS to register your arrival to EMU.
