Our office offers experiences not only for incoming first-year students, we also offer opportunities for returning undergraduate students (year-round, for a few months, or a few weeks), and graduate students. View brief descriptions and general time commitments below.

  • Orientation Group Leader - OGL (15 - 20) Expand dropdown

    Time Commitment: January - August

    January and February consist of weekly meetings/trainings. March - August contain 13+ SOAR  program days, and a handful of meetings.

    These leaders guide new students through their SOAR experience, answer questions, assist with class registration, provide tours, and generally make an outstanding experience for students.

  • O-Team (7-10) Expand dropdown
    Time Commitment: January - August/September (depending on when EMU Connect falls).

    January - August consists of bi-weekly meetings to plan Connect Group Leader training and EMU Connect programs.

    These experienced Orientation leaders spend months planning for CGL training and guide a group of CGLs through the training and EMU Connect experience. They act as a resource for CGLs and incoming students, and strive to create a great experience for all.

  • Connect Group Leaders - CGL(50) Expand dropdown

    Time Commitment: 1 week in August/September (depending on when EMU Connect falls).

    These returning student leaders give their time and energy at EMU Connect to welcome and guide incoming students through their Orientation experience. **as of June 2023, the CGL role is a volunteer position

  • SWAT Member (5-8) Expand dropdown

    Time Commitment: 2-3 weeks in August/September (depending on when EMU Connect falls).

    This team handles the behind the scenes logistics for EMU Connect! Everything that needs to be prepped, delivered, or set up probably happens thanks to SWAT.

  • SOAR Student Assistant (2) Expand dropdown

    Time Commitment: vacant - April (renewable until student graduates if Orientation Coordinator and Student both agree)

    The SOAR Student assistants supervise and facilitate training for OGL and SWAT teams, looking over SOAR programing days. This position builds leadership skills, program planning, and conflict resolution skills. 

  • EMU Connect Student Assistant (2)

    Time Commitment: vacant - April (renewable until student graduates if Orientation Coordinator and Student both agree)

    The EMU Connect Student Assistants supervise and facilitate training for O-Team and Connect Group Leaders and provide insight to the Connect program and their roles. This role emphasizes leadership development, program planning, and conflict resolution skills.

  • SOAR Graduate Assistant (1) Expand dropdown

    Time Commitment: May - April (renewable for 2 years)

    The SOAR Graduate Assistant provides leadership for Orientation Group Leaders and SOAR Student Assistants during SOAR season. Accommodate guests and incoming students during SOAR events. Assist with and oversee room reservations, training, and vendor checks to create a safe learning environment.

     

  • EMU Connect Graduate Assistant (1)

    Time Commitment: May - April (renewable for 2 years)

    The EMU Connect Graduate Assistant supervises 2 Student Asstistants year-round, a team of 10+ undergraduate students (O-Team) for about 9 months, and the Connect Group Leaders for a few weeks. Along with supervising, the GA works closely with the Orientation Coordinator and campus partners to create and facilitate engaging programs for the incoming class of students at EMU Connect.
