The critical and analytical skills developed in the study of philosophy are applicable to any profession.
While nearly fifteen percent of our graduates pursue a Ph.D. in philosophy, at least twenty-six percent of our philosophy alumni pursue graduate education in other related fields. Philosophy is one of the top two or three academic disciplines whose students score highest on the Law School Admissions Test. Our graduates have gained admission to a variety of law schools.
David Strand is a full-time Professor of Philosophy at Oakland Community College, Wayne County, Michigan.
Kevin Kretschmer is enrolled in an M.A. Program in Philosophy at University College, Dublin, Ireland. He is writing his thesis on theories of social evolution and the normative foundations of critical theory.
Michael Haynes is working as a law clerk in the legal department of the Office of the General Counsel at the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) in Washington DC. He obtained the position through the Peggy Browning Fellowship, which gives law students interested in union-side labor law opportunities to work for union attorneys and organizations. In the fall Michael will be working as a law clerk at the AFL-CIO headquarters in Washington, D.C. while he completes his third year of law school.
