Contest Description
Recyclethon is a yearly contest that pits buildings against one another to see who can increase their recycling rate the most from one month to the next. Note that the contest is determined by a rate increase instead of merely who recycles the most. This helps even the playing field for different size buildings and buildings with different amounts of occupants.
A base month is selected and recycling data is gathered to determine a base amount of recycling for a participating building. The contest is announced at the beginning of the contest month, which is a month sometime after the base month. The months selected for use in the contest are not announced ahead of time so as not to affect the recycling rate in the buildings.
Rules
The participating buildings, base month, and contest month are determined by the Energy and Sustainability Manager for the campus each year. Only materials collected within the building count towards the total (this excludes any materials that must be picked up by the Physical Plant such as tires, batteries, Styrofoam, or electronics). Any evidence of destruction of another building's recycling will eliminate the offending party's entry in the contest. Contest winners are solely determined by the Energy and Sustainability Manager once all of the necessary data has been collected.
