Timely Warning 14-14 September 27, 2014

Reported Crime: Armed Robbery/Shooting – City of Ypsilanti – Off Campus

The Ypsilanti Police are investigating a report of an armed robbery that occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m., Saturday, September 27, in the 500 block of Congress Street, near the intersection of Ballard Street and Michigan Avenue (southeast of the EMU Campus).

The victim, a male who is not an EMU student, reports that he was meeting another subject to purchase drugs. The suspect lured the victim into an alley and then produced a handgun. The suspect demanded money from the victim. The victim struggled with the suspect and grabbed the gun. The gun discharged and caused a minor injury to the victim's hand. The suspect then fled north on Ballard on foot and the victim fled the area as well. The victim was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The victim described the suspect as an African American male, mid-twenties, approximately 5' 6" tall, short black hair, wearing a black t-shirt, black shorts, and black shoes.

Timely Warning: 14-13, September 6, 2014

Reported Crime: Unarmed Robbery– City of Ypsilanti – Off Campus

Ypsilanti Police are investigating a report of an unarmed robbery that occurred at approximately 8:25 p.m. Friday, September 5, 2014 at the AAATA Ypsilanti Transit Center, 220 Pearl St (near the EMU College of Business).

The victim, a male non-EMU student, reported that he was at the bus station when the suspect walked up and took a small amount of cash out of his hand. The victim stated that he chased the suspect, but lost him near Michigan Avenue. When the victim walked back to the bus station, the suspect had returned as well. The victim approached the suspect and the suspect grabbed his own waistband as if he had a weapon and threatened the victim.

The victim stated that the suspect then fled the area and the victim called the police; the victim was uninjured. Officers checked the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.

The victim described the suspect as a black male, between 20 and 30 years of age wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and a red Nike hat.

Timely Warning: 14-12, July 26, 2014

Reported Crime: Armed Robbery – City of Ypsilanti – Off Campus

The Ypsilanti Police Department is investigating a report of an armed robbery that occurred at approximately 3 a.m. Saturday, July 26, in the 300 block of N. Normal St. (south of EMU campus).

The victim, a male non-EMU student, reported that he was in an alleyway when he was approached by two unknown subjects who asked for his money. The victim indicated a weapon was implied and seen in the waistband of one of the suspects, and that he gave them $40. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspects. No injuries were reported by the victim.

The victim described the suspects as follows:

Suspect one: Black male, heavy set, 20 - 30 years old, clean cut.

Suspect two: Black male, thin build, 20 - 30 years old.

The weapon was described as a silver handgun.

Reported Crime: Armed Robbery– City of Ypsilanti – Off Campus

The Ypsilanti Police are investigating a report of an armed robbery that occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. Monday, July 21, at 950 Railroad St (north of EMU campus).

The victim, a female EMU student, reported that she was in her apartment when she was approached by three houseguests. Two of the suspects produced handguns and demanded her belongings. The suspects fled the area in a vehicle.

Suspect One: Black male, approximately five feet four inches tall, dark skinned, with a "high fade" haircut.

Suspect Two: Black male, light skinned, curly afro, wearing a black shirt, and armed with a silver revolver.

Suspect Three: Black male, dark skinned, armed with an unknown handgun.

Suspect Vehicle: White two-door Pontiac Sunfire. No plate information available.

Timely Warning: 14-10 June 25, 2014

Reported Crime:  Criminal Sexual Conduct and False Imprisonment– City of Ypsilanti – Off Campus

The Ypsilanti Police are investigating a report of criminal sexual conduct that occurred at approximately 11:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, at the north parking lot of Frog Island Park (400 Block of Rice Street).

The victim, a male, non EMU student, reported that he was walking east along Huron River Drive in the area of McDonald's when he was approached several times by a heavy-set black male in a Silver Taurus asking him if he needed a ride. The victim accepted a ride.

The driver ignored the victim's travel directions. The victim stated that he tried to exit the vehicle, however the driver grabbed hold of him and continued to the north parking lot of Frog Island Park and parked the car.

The suspect then sexually assaulted the victim. The suspect then drove the victim to the area of Hamilton Street and Forest Street and allowed the victim to exit the vehicle. The victim was subsequently taken to the hospital after he reported the incident to police.

Suspect (Driver): Heavy-set black male, approximately 5 foot, 9-inches inches tall, 250 lbs., clean shaven, last seen wearing a gray shirt and dark jeans.

Suspect Vehicle: Silver 2002 Ford Taurus with the driver side parking light burnt out. The windshield is cracked. No plate information was available.

Reported Crime: Unarmed Robbery – City of Ypsilanti – Off Campus

The Ypsilanti Police are investigating a report of an unarmed robbery that occurred at approximately 4:25 a.m., Sunday, May 11, near the intersection of W. Forest Avenue and N. Huron Street in the City of Ypsilanti.

The victim, a male non EMU student, reported that he was walking east on W. Forest Avenue and was approached by a possible "sand colored" Cadillac, bearing a partial license plate number of "0900," occupied by four males near N. Huron Street. The vehicle stopped, all four suspects exited and started to punch and kick the victim. The victim reported cash was taken from him during the assault. The suspect vehicle fled south on N. Hamilton Street. The victim showed signs of minor injuries and declined medical attention from Huron Valley Ambulance.

The victim described the suspects as follows:
Suspect 1 (Driver): African American Male, large build, late twenties to early thirties, wearing a red shirt.
Suspect 2 (Front Passenger): African American Male, late twenties to early thirties, wearing a white shirt.
Suspect 3 (Rear Seat Driver Side): African American Male, late twenties to early thirties, wearing a blue Adidas long sleeve top with three white stripes down each sleeve, and Cartier glasses.
Suspect 4 (Rear Seat Passenger Side): African American Male, late twenties to early thirties, wearing a "sweat hood."

Timely Warning: 14-08 May 11, 2014

Reported Crime: Armed Robbery – City of Ypsilanti – Off Campus

The Ypsilanti Police are investigating a report of an armed robbery that occurred at approximately 11:37 p.m., Saturday, May 10, near the intersection of Ballard Street and Cross Street (southeast of the EMU Campus).

The victim, a male non EMU student, reported that he was walking to Depot Town from a liquor store and was approached by a male suspect. The suspect showed the victim a knife and told the victim to walk with him. The suspect held the knife near the victim as they walked east on Cross Street to a dumpster at Washington Street. The suspect placed the knife closer to the victim and took the victim's wallet and several miscellaneous property items. The suspect fled on foot south on Washington Street, where the victim lost sight of him. The victim reported no injuries.

The victim described the suspect as an African American, male, 5'10", medium build, late twenties to early thirties, and wearing a black zip up hoodie.

Timely Warning 14-07 April 29, 2014

Reported Crime: Attempted Unarmed Robbery – City of Ypsilanti – Off Campus

The Ypsilanti Police are investigating a report of an attempted unarmed robbery that occurred at approximately 12:25 a.m. today, Tuesday, April 29, near the intersection of Ballard Street and Emmet Street (southeast of the EMU Campus).

The victims, two male EMU students, report that they were walking home from a liquor store and were approached by four male suspects. Two of the suspects started punching the victims and attempted to take a bottle of liquor from one of the victims. The victims stated that they started yelling to call the police and that suspects then fled the area on foot. The suspects fled west on Emmet Street and then turned north on Perrin Street, where the victims lost sight of them. Both victims said nothing was taken. Both victims reported minor injuries and declined medical attention.

The victims described the suspects as African American males, late twenties to early thirties, and wearing dark clothing.

Timely Warning 14-06 - April 23, 2014

Reported Crime:   Attempted Unarmed Robbery

Location: Alexander Paid Parking Lot - EMU

The EMU Police Department is investigating an attempted unarmed robbery that occurred in the Alexander Paid Lot at approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday April 22,2014. The victim, a female EMU student, reported that an unknown male walked up to her and asked for money. When the female declined, the male grabbed her purse. After a short struggle, the suspect let go of the purse and fled west, the victim said. The victim did not report any injuries.

The victim described the suspect as approximately six feet tall and 200 pounds, wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt. No other information was provided.

Timely Warning 14-05, April 4, 2014

Reported Crime:   Armed Robbery – City of Ypsilanti – Off Campus

Ypsilanti Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred in the 800 block of Green Rd. (off Leforge Rd.) at approximately 9:50 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2014.

The victim, who is not an Eastern Michigan University student, reports that he was approached on foot by two suspects while he was delivering a pizza.   The suspects demanded that the victim give them "everything" and pointed a black handgun at the victim. The victim says he gave the suspects his money, and the suspects fled toward Peninsular Park. The victim reported that he was not injured.

The victim could only provide a vague description of the suspects to police. The victim advised that the two suspects were wearing dark clothing and dark hoodies.

Update to Timely Warning 14-04 April 3, 2014

Reported Crime: Attempted Unarmed Robbery – Rynearson Parking Lot on Hewitt Road– EMU Campus

Regarding the Timely Warning issued earlier this evening about an attempted unarmed robbery reported in the Rynearson Parking Lot, the victim has recanted her statement. No attempted unarmed robbery or assault of any kind occurred according to the victim.

 

Timely Warning 14-04 April 3, 2014

Reported Crime: Attempted Unarmed Robbery – Rynearson Parking Lot on Hewitt Road– EMU Campus

EMU Police are investigating a report of an attempted unarmed robbery that occurred at approximately 6 p.m. today Thursday, April 3 in the Rynearson Lot on the EMU Campus.

The victim, an EMU student, reports that she was walking on north side of the bus shelter in the parking lot when a male approached her from behind and then hit her in the back of the head and knocked her down. The victim said that the male then went through her backpack and fled on foot in an unknown direction. The victim reported that she was knocked unconscious briefly when she was hit. She was treated and released at a local hospital, with no reported injuries. The victim also advised that no property was taken.

The victim described the suspect as an African American male, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing a black coat and black knit hat.

Timely Warning 14-03 February 12, 2014

Reported Crime: Felonious Assault - Off Campus - City of Ypsilanti

Ypsilanti Police are investigating a report of a felonious assault that occurred at approximately 3:10 p.m. today at the corner of Emmet Street and Normal Street, just south of the EMU Campus.

The victim, an EMU Student, reports that he was walking northbound on Normal Street and was approached by a vehicle occupied by three males near Emmet Street.  The passengers in the vehicle rolled down the windows and were making fun of the victim's pants. The victim exchanged words with the suspects and the rear seat passenger pointed a black/silver handgun at the victim. The victim ran away from the area and reported that the vehicle fled eastbound on Emmet Street. The victim did not report any injuries.

The victim described the suspects as African American males, in their early 20's, average heights, and thin builds. The front seat passenger was described as wearing a blue and yellow striped jacket. The subject with the handgun was wearing dark clothing. The vehicle involved was described as being a late 1990's or early 2000's black sedan with heavy front end damage and missing rear bumper.

Timely Warning: 14-02 February 9, 2014

Reported Crime: Unarmed Robbery - City of Ypsilanti - Off Campus

Location: Sidewalk in the 700 block of North Congress Street, between Ballard Street and South Normal Street., which is located south of the EMU Campus.

The Ypsilanti Police Department is investigating an unarmed robbery that occurred at approximately 3:03 a.m. Sunday, February 9, 2014.  The victim, an Eastern Michigan University student, said he was walking on the sidewalk when three males approached him and asked if he wanted to buy marijuana. The victim said he responded by saying, "No." The victim stated he was hit several times before the suspects fled on foot after taking his wallet from him. An EMU Police Officer attempted to stop the three subjects matching the descriptions below as they were walking south on Warner Street near Michigan Avenue. Two of the subjects ran off into a nearby apartment complex. The third subject was stopped, detained, positively identified, and subsequently arrested. The victim said that his wallet was taken. The victim reported abrasions, cuts and bruising to the face and was treated and released at the scene.

Suspect Descriptions:

1.    Suspect - 1: (Arrested) Black male about 6 feet, 4 inches tall, late teens to early twenties, wearing all black and a red hat.

2.     Suspect - 2: Black male about 5-7 to 5-9 tall, late teens to early twenties, wearing all black.

3.     Suspect - 3: Black male about 5-7 to 5-9 tall, late teens to early twenties, wearing all black.

The Ypsilanti Police Department is reporting that the fourth suspect is in custody related to the attempted carjacking/armed robbery on Congress Street near Summit Street on January 21.  Four suspects are now in custody related to this case.  None of the suspects are EMU students.  Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact D/Sgt Thomas Eberts at (734) 482-9878.

Reported Crime: Armed Robbery- City of Ypsilanti

The Ypsilanti Police Department is reporting that three of the four suspects in the attempted carjacking/armed robbery on Congress Street near Summit Street on January 21 have been arrested.  The fourth suspect has been identified and police are working to bring him into custody.  None of the suspects are EMU students.  Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact D/Sgt Thomas Eberts at (734) 482-9878.

Timely Warning 14-01, January 22, 2014

Reported Crime – Armed Robbery/Felonious Assault/Attempted Car Jacking

-City of Ypsilanti - Off Campus

Location:  700 Block of Congress Street

The Ypsilanti Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred at approximately 9:15 p.m., January 21st, in the 700 block of Congress Street near Summit Street, several blocks south of the Eastern Michigan University campus.  The victim, an Eastern Michigan University student, had just got in his car when four male suspects, two armed with semi-automatic handguns, confronted him.  One of the armed suspects (Suspect #1), struck the victim in the head with a handgun, and took his wallet.  The suspects also attempted to take the victim's car during the robbery.  The suspects were last seen fleeing the scene on foot in an unknown direction.

The victim was treated and released at the scene for minor injuries.

Suspect description:

1.   Black male, late teens to early 20s, wearing a white hoodie sweatshirt, armed with a handgun.

2.   Black male, late teens to early 20s, wearing a red & black jacket with the letter "R" on the chest, armed with a handgun.

3.   Back male, late teens to early 20s, wearing all dark clothing.

4.   White male, late teens to early 20s, wearing all dark clothing.
