Speakers
UNIVERSITY POLICY STATEMENT:
Eastern Michigan University recognizes excellence
in service or vocation through the selection of
commencement speakers in accordance with the goals
and objectives of the University. The President
of the University has the privilege of selecting
the commencement speaker with the advice and consent
of the Board of Regents.
UNIVERSITY PRACTICE:
University practices for implementing this policy
include:
- An informal recommendation is given
to the Board of Regents by the President
subsequent to making a selection.
- An honorary degree may, at the discretion
of the President, accompany the selection
of the commencement speaker.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR IMPLEMENTATION:
The President has complete responsibility for selecting
the most appropriate candidate as the commencement
speaker.
The Board of Regents offers its advice and consent
on the President's selection.
SCOPE OF POLICY COVERAGE:
This policy applies to the selection of all commencement
speakers for the University.
