The Department offers several General Education courses. The majority of these courses satisfy requirements in our majors and minors.


Undergraduate Majors

International Affairs - International Affairs focuses on international and comparative politics, giving students valuable tools for functioning in today's globalized world as well as preparing those who are interested in internationally-oriented careers. The major also includes course options in History, Economics, Anthropology, Geography, and Foreign Language. This curriculum totals 54-64 credit hours and does not require students to complete a minor.  

Political Science - this major focuses on the core elements of government: exploring theory and structure, political culture and values, public life, and the wide and the wide variety of socio-economic contexts in which they function. Courses often encourage and explore civil literacy and political participation.

Public Law and Government - Public Law focuses on the judicial aspects of American government, exploring the theoretical and practical role of the courts in society. Special attention is directed towards the interpretation of constitutional & legislative law and the legalistic interaction between branches of government.

Public Administration - Public Administration studies the administration of modern government. The discipline explores the policy-making and implementation processes, the theories behind organization, public budgeting processes, and program evaluation, among others.  

Combined Bachelor's Degree in Political Science or Public Administration and Master's of Public Administration Degree - The Combined Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science or Public Administration and Master’s of Public Administration Degree is an accelerated five year program in which exceptional students will earn both undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Public Safety Administration Curriculum - Public Safety Administration builds on the Public Administration major.  It pays special attention to the role of first responders and other key personnel in their quest to protect society while also honoring the concepts of liberty and justice. This discipline offers specialized courses for those seeking to work on the administrative side of public safety organizations.


Undergraduate Minors

The department offers four minors of 21-24 credit hours, including three in the same fields as our majors: Political Science , Public Law and Government, and Public Administration. We also offer a distinct minor in Nonprofit Administration which focuses on the unique challenges to 401(c)3 nonprofit organizations, including fundraising, working with volunteers and boards, and leadership.
