Campus Update

Dear Colleagues:

In an effort to keep the University community informed, I would like to update you on several organizational changes effective immediately.

Karen Simpkins, acting vice president for student affairs and interim associate vice president for business and finance – human resources, will lead the department of human resources on a full-time basis. Her new title will be interim associate vice president for human resources.

The office of human resources will now report to the office of the president. It formerly was under the division of business and finance.

Bernice Lindke, formerly associate vice president for enrollment management, has been named interim vice president for student affairs. A search committee for the position of vice president for student affairs will be named and the search will begin in October.

Finally, the five college deans – Vernon Polite, college of education; David Mielke, college of business; Morell Boone, college of technology; Jeanne Thomas, college of health and human services; and Hartmut Hoft, college of arts and sciences, will be members of the Strategic Operations Council.

Several weeks ago, changes occurred in academic affairs.

Bob Neely, associate provost and associate vice president for research, will take on the provost’s duties, which will enable me to focus on fulfilling presidential duties.

Bette Warren, head of the math department, has been named the interim associate vice president for academic programming. Bette will retain her title as head of the math department, but Chris Gardiner will oversee the day-to-day operations of the department.

Wade Tornquist, former associate dean for the college of arts and sciences, has been named the executive associate to the provost for operations. Tammy Greco, head of biology, will assume the role of associate dean for the college of arts and sciences. She will retain her department head status, but Bob Winning will serve as the department head pro tempe.

Thank you for all your hard work while kicking off the fall semester.

Don
