Dear Eastern Michigan University community,
Congratulations to our women's basketball team on winning a trip to the NCAA Tournament! It is only the second NCAA appearance for the women's team in the history of Eastern. We will play South Carolina on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.
Participating in the NCAA Tournament is a great point of pride and recognition, and a cause of celebration for our student athletes and the entire student body, as well as our faculty, staff, alumni and friends.
Congratulations to our outstanding seniors on the team - Tavelyn James and Paige Redditt. They are having outstanding seasons and careers, with Tavelyn named the winner of the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award, presented annually by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame to the nation's outstanding female collegian 5-feet-8-inches and under who has excelled both athletically and academically, as well as MAC Player of the Year. Paige, honored as a third-team All-MAC, hit the clutch shot that won the MAC Championship game on Saturday against Central Michigan with just 1.5 seconds remaining on the clock.

The outstanding performance of our players and staff also has been the subject of considerable positive local and national recognition for Eastern. You can find many of the stories on our media highlights page at www.emich.edu/media_highlights . If you didn't get a chance to see the MAC Championship game and want to, please visit http://espn.go.com/watchespn/player/_/source/espn3/id/415607/. The last 10 minutes are particularly exciting.
We are proud of the NCAA accomplishment as well as the outstanding performance of our men's team, which finished first in the MAC West, earning first-year Coach Rob Murphy MAC Coach of the Year honors.
Our 19 other sports continue to flourish. This includes the men's swimming and diving team, which recently captured its 30th MAC Championship! It is with great appreciation that I acknowledge the work of our entire Athletics Department -- the administration, coaches, faculty, staff, trainers and everyone who works so hard to make our teams successful on the playing field, and in the classroom.
Thank you -- and GO GREEN!
