Dexter Area Tornado Relief
March 16, 2012
Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,
We are continuing to monitor relief efforts in the Dexter area where dozens of homes were damaged by the powerful tornadoes in the area late yesterday afternoon. We have reached out to the American Red Cross to offer Eastern's assistance in the relief efforts -- whether helping to identify volunteers to assist with shelter services or whatever other specific needs arise. Further information about Red Cross relief efforts can be found at http://www.wc-redcross.org/.
The United Way has initiated a relief fund specifically targeting tornado relief efforts, as you will note in the message below.
Please join me in supporting our local community at this time of need.
I also am pleased with the rapid activation of our campus emergency communications system during yesterday's weather warnings. Tornado warning and take cover messages via text, email and campus digital signs were activated promptly and continuously. If you have not signed up for emergency text message alerts, I encourage you to do so at http://www.emich.edu/publicsafety/emo/channels/text.php.
