An invitation to participate in Eastern’s comprehensive evaluation for reaccreditation
October 18, 2017
To Students, Faculty, and Staff:
The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) is the agency that conducts institutional-level accreditation to all degree-granting post-secondary educational institutions in the North Central region, which includes the state of Michigan. Accreditation by regional accreditors like HLC is the primary means of assuring and improving the quality of higher education institutions in the U.S. This system of self-examination and peer review by educational institutions is required for student access to federal grants and loans and for the recognition of credits by most governmental and educational entities.
EMU was first accredited by HLC in 1915. The University is preparing for its Comprehensive Evaluation (site visit) to be held on October 23-24, 2017. A team of HLC peer reviewers will be on campus conducting open forum discussions focused on the criteria for accreditation and drop-in sessions for participant-led discussions. All members of the campus community are invited and encouraged to attend. Please review the schedule below and consider participating in this important process by attending one or more of the sessions.
