Question: Will the Ph.D. program prepare me for state licensure?

Answer: The curriculum is APA accredited and designed to qualify all students for state licensure.  Guidelines for licensing Ph.D. psychologists in Michigan state that a Ph.D. degree in clinical psychology must include, ". . . an integrated, organized sequence of study which includes instruction in research design and methodology, statistics, psychometrics, and scientific and professional ethics and standards." The minimum requirements include a graduate course in 3 of the 4 following bases of behavior: Biological, Cognitive-Affective, Social, and Individual Differences, and courses in assessment and treatment. The national licensing exam covers all four subfields, as well as expertise in assessment and treatment.

Question: Are part-time students admitted to the doctoral program?

Answer: The doctoral program is a full-time, full residency program that is designed to be completed in 5 years. No part time students will be accepted.

Question: Do you offer a masters degree in clinical psychology?

Answer: Yes. We offer M.S. degrees in Clinical Behavioral psychology and General Clinical psychology. The Clinical Behavioral program defines clinical problems in terms of observable behavior and focuses on treatments involving changing the environment to help clients learn new behaviors. Eastern's psychology department is recognized as a leader in this area. The General Clinical (GC) program provides a multitheoretical view of psychological disorders that emphasizes assessment, diagnosis, and treatment from various perspectives. Students in these programs may take courses from the other clinical program, and have many other opportunities for collaboration.

Question: Will the M.S. programs prepare me for state licensure?

Answer: Yes. The Clinical Behavioral and General Clinical masters programs are designed to make the student eligible to become a Limited License Psychologist (LLP) in the State of Michigan.

Question: Can I get a BCBA credential by graduating from your Clinical Behavioral program ?

Answer: The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) credential is given by the Behavior Analysis Certification Board (BACB). The Clinical Behavioral course sequence is approved for the BCBA credential. Additional supervised practicum hours are required for the BCBA credential beyond the 500 hours required for state licensure.
