Biography
I am responsible for teaching a wide range of undergraduate courses including (but not limited to) History and Systems of Psychology, Introduction to Psychology, and Abnormal Psychology. I am also responsible for teaching graduate courses in Psychopathology, and Research Design to MS and Ph.D. students.

Additional duties have included serving as the coordinator for the General Clinical MS program, chairing search committees for clinical and statistics faculty, representing the department at graduate counsel and graduate coordinator meetings.

Current research interests focus on two distinct areas of inquiry.

The first area is well-established and includes studies examining:
   (1) The longitudinal expression of PTSD symptoms among severe burn victims.   (2) Factorial invariance of PTSD symptoms across time.   (3) The effects of trauma history and personality traits on judgments of social support.   (4) The moderating effect of schizophrenia-spectrum personality traits on the relationship between social support and PTSD symptoms.   (5) The relationship between maternal expectations and values and frequency/severity of child maltreatment.   (6) Factor structure of PTSD in a sample of impoverished African American Women.

The second research area is relatively new and focuses on examining use, misuse, and impact of the social networking site Facebook. Data collection for this project began in the Fall, 2011 term. Specific research questions examined in this project will include the following:
   (1) Experiences of Facebook users (e.g., experience of negative behaviors on Facebook, perceived Facebook Social Support, frequency and reasons for Facebook usage, and beliefs regarding addiction to Facebook use).   (2) Frequency and severity of engagement in risky behaviors on Facebook.   (3) Relationship between risky behaviors on Facebook and traditional pencil-and-paper measures of risky behaviors.    (4) Frequency with which social support is provided on Facebook and effectiveness of Facebook support in ameliorating PTSD symptoms relative to traditional (face-to-face) social support.
