The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer of the University. The Provost leads the University's faculty and has overall responsibility for curricculum, academic requirements, planning and academic resource allocation, instructional and research programs, academic personnel, faculty and staff development, off-campus programming. Working in partnership with the faculty and staff, the Provost is responsible for translating the University's key strategic directions into high quality academic programs. The Office of the Provost provides service and support to the University's five colleges, Halle library, 33 academic departments, numerous institutes and centers, and five regional centers. Those reporting to the Provost includes College Deans, the Associate Vice President for Research and Graduate studies, the Associate Vice President for Extended programs, the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director of the Honors College, and the University Librarian. Donald Loppnow joined Eastern Michigan University as interim Provost beginning September 20, 2004. Dr. Loppnow, who recently served as acting president of the University for the period between former President Samuel Kirkpatrick's departure and Dr. Craig Willis' arrival will retain responsibility for strategic planning and continuous improvement during his Interim Provost appointment.
