Program Overview
If you are a busy professional who wants to add more information
and skills to your current business knowledge, Eastern Michigan
University's graduate certificate program in business is designed
for you. If you decide to pursue the Master of Business Administration
(MBA) or another graduate business degree at EMU in the future,
you will find that most of the certificates courses can be applied
toward your degree. At EMU, the following graduate certificates
are offered: graduate certificate in business administration (post
bachelor's), graduate certificates in an area of specialization
(post bachelor's), advanced graduate certificate in an area of specialization
(post graduate) and advanced graduate certificate - M.B.A. update.
Graduate Certificate in Business Administration
The graduate certificate in business administration is designed
for those who have an undergraduate degree in an area other than
business administration. It provides an opportunity to gain business
knowledge for personal or career advancement in the basic functional
business disciplines.
Graduate Certificate in an Area of Specialization
If you have an undergraduate degree in business or non-business
and want a more specialized graduate business certificate, EMU offers
courses in the following functional fields: Computer Information Systems, E-Business, Entrepreneurship,
Finance, Human Resource Management, International Business, Marketing
Management, Management Information Systems, Organizational Development,
and Supply Chain Management.
Special Features
Classes
are offered in the evening, and in some cases on Saturdays, to accommodate
student's needs. Courses are offered fall and winter semesters,
on e evening per week from 6:30 p.m. to 9:10 p.m. or, in some cases
on Saturday morning or afternoon. Many courses are also offered
on a shortened spring/summer session schedule, two evenings per
week from 6:30 p.m. to 9:10 p.m.
Accreditation
The
College of Business is fully accredited by the AACSB International
- The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Eastern
Michigan University is fully accredited by the North Central Association
of College and Secondary Schools.
Faculty
As
a graduate student, you will study with many full-time faculty members
of the College of Business who are dedicated to teaching and who
regularly participate in academic and professional activities. You
will have the hands-on learning opportunities with faculty who possess
real-world experience and professional credentials. Our faculty
publish in international, national, and regional refereed academic
and professional journals, advise and consult with numerous area
business in the areas of professional, business, and manufacturing
services. They bring current techniques and up-to-date practices
in the field to you through instruction, active involvement in the
life of the campus and community. As professors, they provide innovative
leadership in curriculum development, team building and communications.
Facilities
The
Gary M. Owen College of Business Building, completed in 1990, is
a 122,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility. It includes classrooms,
computer labs, seminar rooms, and departmental and faculty offices
that simulate a typical business environment. The College of Business
has equipped its computer laboratory with PC compatible computers
and laser printers. All faculty members are accessible through e-mail
and linked to the internet.

Application Process
To
be eligible for the graduate certificate program, students must
have completed a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
of higher education with a minimum GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale).
For the advanced graduate certificate or the M.B.A. update, students
must have completed a master's degree from an accredited institution
with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). The Graduate Management
Admissions Test (GMAT) is not required for the certificate program
but is required in order to continue on for a master's degree in
the College of Business. In addition to the GMAT, the following
process needs to be completed:
- Complete and submit the application for graduate studyPay the non-refundable $30 application feeSubmit official transcripts with degrees posted from all
undergraduate and graduate institutions attended. Transcripts
must be received in a sealed envelope
directly from the institutions. Transcripts from international
institutions must be translated into English. Applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate
English language proficiency by submitting official test scores
for the TOEFL/TWE or MELAB tests. The minimum TOEFL score for
admission is 213.
- If you are an international student on an F-1 visa, must complete
the Financial Statement for International Applicants.

been taken in an undergraduate or graduate program. These courses

excluding any prerequisites (shown in parentheses), and are made
