Managing and Leading Others

Who Should Attend:

Mid-level and/or senior supervisors or managers who are looking to create breakthrough ideas and who are interested in understanding and learning skills that differentiate managing from leading others.

Program Format and Content :

All managers must be leaders but not all leaders are managers.   This workshop develops a basic foundation of leadership competency - knowledge and skills - to fulfill the roles and responsibilities of leaders who hold management positions.   Many managers are selected for their positions due to their high performance in their respective jobs.   People who are tapped for management positions may excel in their individual responsibilities.   However, transition into managerial position also involves transition into new responsibilities that involve not only excelling with individual performance but also eliciting excellent performance from those reporting to the manager.

How does a manager provide the necessary leadership to obtain value added performance from leading others?
This workshop on managing and leading others will enable participants to

•  Differentiate between leading versus managing;

•  Explain how different leadership skills impact the performance of others;

•  Describe leadership in performance management processes;

•  Assess leadership performance outcomes and develop subsequent development strategies for the next level of growth;

•  Demonstrate competency for developing, coaching, and providing performance feedback to others;

•  Practice having difficult conversations with others such as performance improvement, behavioral discipline, and rehiring/firing.

This three day (24 hour) workshop will involve pre-work readings, experiential exercises, role playing, lecture/discussion, film clippings, and self assessment of professional leadership development.
