MACRAO
MISSION
MACRAO
(The Michigan Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions
Officers) is organized to provide for the exchange of information
concerning issues of interest to it's members and to contribute
to the advancement of education in Michigan. |
 |
| |
The association, through an annual conference, other workshops
and seminars and contacts with educational leaders and professional
associations in the state, strives to provide professional development
opportunities for it's members as well as provide a forum for
discussion and the exchange of ideas.
Goals
and Accomplishments
MACRAO AGREEMENT
One of the significant accomplishments of the association is
the "MACRAO Agreement". This agreement, designed to
facilitate transfer from community colleges to baccalaureate
college and universities, provides for transferability of up
to 30 semester credits to meet many (in some cases all) of the
general education requirements at the four-year colleges. Students
may complete the MACRAO agreement as part of an associate degree
or as a stand-alone package.
MICHIGAN
COLLEGE MALL
It is in the spirit of cooperation and the goal of facilitating
the transfer process that MACRAO has developed the Michigan
College Mall. College and Universities are encouraged to
establish a link on their home page to the Michigan
College Mall which has links to all MACRAO member institutions
who have a website. The association sees the Michigan
College Mall as the first step in facilitation online transfer
equivalency in the state of Michigan and is working with several
professional associations towards this goal.
How
Does This Affect Me If I Transfer to EMU?
Eastern Michigan University is a signatory of the MACRAO agreement.
The purpose of this agreement is to ensure that students who
complete a specified distribution of general education courses
at a community college will have satisfied general education
requirements at any signatory four-year college. Eastern Michigan
University accepts the MACRAO agreement with the following additional
provisions: Students who have been certified by a signatory
community college as having satisfied the general education
requirements of the MACRAO agreement in each required course,
will be required to fulfill only the four additional courses
now a part of Eastern Michigan University's general education
requirements:
- an advanced writing or speaking course or a foreign language
composition course;
- a mathematical reasoning course (unless waived by an ACT
math sub-score of 23 or SAT math sub-score of 580);
- a computer literacy course; and
- a cross-cultural / international studies course, all from
the approved list.
This agreement applies only to general education and does not
exempt the community college transfer student from meeting all
