John Charles began his professional
theatre career in the Chicago area where he worked with a number
of companies including In The Round Dinner Playhouse, Marriots
Great America and The Northwest Center for the Performing Arts.
In 1978, he came to the state of Michigan to serve as resident
designer at the True Grist LTD. Dinner Theatre. Among the almost
two score productions he designed there were Oklahoma, Brigadoon,
South Pacific, On Golden Pond and A Thousand Clowns. In 1983,
John joined the staff of EMU as technical supervisor and earned
his B.S. in Theatre Arts. he designed countless plays for EMU,
including Nash at Nine, The Lark, Greater Tuna, Cloud 9 and The
Cherry Orchard. His designs have won him two Undergraduate Excellence
Awards, three Faculty Recognition Awards and EMU's prestigious
Artistic Recognition Award. John's industrial shows include international
auto shows in Detroit, New York and Atlanta.
