Lolita Cummings Hendrix, APR, is one of EMU's most popular professors who has earned recognition in Who's Who Among America's Teachers. She came to EMU in 1994 and was promoted to full professor in 2003. With more than 20 years of experience in the field, Professor Hendrix remains active as a consultant for numerous nonprofit organizations. She is active in research areas, such as academic service-learning as an effective methodology for teaching public relations and crisis communication and volunteerism for nonprofit organizations. Professor Hendrix has presented at numerous regional and national professional and academic conferences, and her work has appeared in Public Relations Tactics and Public Relations Quarterly. Professor Hendrix has a master’s degree in communications and is accredited by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). She is the recipient of the 1997 EMU Faculty Appreciation Award. Melissa Motschall, Ph.D, APR, also is a professor of public relations and has taught at EMU since 1995. She has more than 20 years of professional experience, including serving as communications director for Wayne State University’s Center for Urban Studies and public affairs officer for the Michigan Township Association. Dr. Motschall’s research interests include public relations education strategies, career role development and police public relations. She has presented papers at numerous regional and national professional and academic conferences, and her research has appeared in the Public Relations Review and Police Quarterly. Dr. Motschall has a Ph.D. in organizational communication and rhetoric from Wayne State University and a master’s degree in organizational communication from Purdue University. She is accredited by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), and serves as a board member of the Detroit Chapter of the PRSA, which recently honored her with the 2005 Robert Hefty Distinguished Service Award for her work as an advisor, mentor and educator in the public relations field (article in
