Students
Every EMU public relations graduate enters the
workforce armed with valuable professional
experience gained while completing at least one
internship and an academic service-learning project.
Some facts about our students:
-
The average grade point for PR graduates is 3.1.
- There are honors students in every graduating class, and these same students are active in the EMU-PRSSA, campus leadership organizations, and internships.
- Our top students have received university scholarships, as well as prestigious awards in the professional community. For example, since 1999, four EMU PR students have received the PRSA-Detroit chapter’s
Donald Durocher Memorial Scholarship (http://www.prsadetroit.org/Content/Student/Overview
competing with students from dozens of colleges throughout the state of Michigan.
- The consistently solid academic performance of our students has contributed to their success locating employment after graduation.
In response to a survey that asked why local employers had hired EMU graduates over other candidates, one public relations agency owner stated, “Their [EMU grads] qualifications and preparation. They have a solid education.” On a scale from 1 to 5 (1=poor; 5=excellent), employers ratings averaged a “4” on most skill or knowledge areas, with professionalism and pre-professional experiences receiving the highest ratings.
