Course Description

 

Introduction to general concepts and goals of historic preservation.
Students will explore preservation's role in American culture, issues in establishing historic districts, downtown revitalization, and identification of historic architectural styles.
Field trips, case studies, and a revitalization simulation will provide students with first-hand experience.

Course Requirements

 

Web Caucus Participation

Each student will participate in online discussions covering course readings and current topics. Students will be expected to interact with each other's comments, providing thoughtful response and critical analysis.

Assignments

Each student will be required to complete a series of assignments dealing with issues being presented in the "web classroom." All must be completed to get credit for this item.

Students will also participate in the "Rivertown Simulation," a continuing exercise looking at issues of revitalizing a fictional historic downtown.

Examinations.

A Midterm and a Final Examination will be submitted directly to the instructor by Email.
